The New River is one of the oldest rivers on the continent and it runs through roughly 70,000 acres of natural land. This vibrant landscape features deep canyons, rolling green hills, and a wide range of wildlife. This is your chance to ride the white water rapids of this historic river! You’ll first meet up at basecamp for a safety briefing and overview of the experience, before grabbing your paddle and donning your PFD (personal flotation device). After that, it’s a short, scenic trip to the launch site!
Before setting off, you’ll have the chance to practice your paddling skills. Then, it’s time to tackle the rapids. You’ll ride along with your expert guide, paddling through class III/IV rapids that will send your heartbeat racing! All around you is stunning natural scenery, including vast rock formations, the remnants of an old coal mine, and spectacular wildlife such as birds of prey, water birds, and even bald eagles. After a short lunch, the second half of your adventure will begin, taking you through the remainder of the lower portion of the New River.
This 6-hour adventure concludes as you pass under the New River Gorge Bridge. This was once the longest single-span arch bridge in the world, and it remains the third largest. It is also the tallest bridge in the US! This is a spectacular place to capture a farewell photo of you and your group.
