Located along Oregon’s southern coast, Port Orford Heads State Park boasts a stunning collection of rugged rock formations, hidden coves, lush kelp beds, and more. During this fully guided adventure, you’ll explore the area from the seat of a tandem kayak!
Beginning in the small coastal town of Port Orford, you and a loved one will hop aboard a sit-in-style tandem kayak. This style of kayak is perfect for your adventure and features a sturdy, easy-to-maneuver design. Before heading out to sea, a professional and experienced guide will show you the ropes of paddling, go over a few safety rules, and provide everyone with a PFD. Then, it’s time to explore!
Paddle through gorgeous, green and blue hued waters while your guide shares fascinating facts about the area. Pass beneath dramatic sea cliffs, across beds of bull kelp, and along rocky sea stacks. Along the way, keep your eyes open for wildlife! These nutrient-rich waters are home to sea lions, jellyfish, harbor seals, and a variety of birds.
If you’re lucky, you may even spot the blow of a Gray Whale! Every year, these massive mammals migrate along the Oregon coast and can be seen frequently from late winter to early fall. Watch these incredible whales as they swim, glide, and dive gracefully through the water.

- Paddlers under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult in a tandem kayak
- Combined weight cannot exceed 525 pounds
- It is highly recommended that all paddlers know how to swim
- PFDs and wetsuits will be provided

What To Wear
What will I see on this tour?
You can see a variety of wildlife on our ocean tours including, but not limited to gray whales, harbor seals, sea lions, jellyfish, multiple types of sea birds as well as intertidal critters like sea stars, urchin, and sea anemones. You will also see a dramatic coastline with cliffs, kelp forests and sea stacks.
Are wildlife sightings guranteed?
No. These animals are wild and their exact location cannot be guaranteed. However, the chances of seeing harbor seals, birds, jellyfish, and other critters is very high.
Do I need previous experience?
No. However, it is recommended that all paddlers know how to swim.
