Day 1
Your trip begins mid-afternoon with a relaxing float down the Orilla Verde Section of the Rio Grande. This unspoiled stretch of the river is filled with breathtaking views and serves up a truly unique southwest experience that’s often captured in art and literature. Paddle through the canyon, following the routes of explorers that have gone before you, and soak up the famous early evening light as the sun begins to set.
Settle into your riverside camp in Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument. Go for a hike, spot wildlife, and take photos of this inspiring spot as your guides prepare a feast for you to enjoy. After dinner, gather around the campfire to swap stories with your fellow paddlers, learn about the area’s history from your knowledgeable guides, and get the scoop on tomorrow’s river run. Then slip into your sleeping bag for a good night’s rest.
Day 2
Start your day with a hearty breakfast prepared by your guides. You’ll need the fuel for the Class III rapids you’ll tackle on the popular Racecourse section of the river. Brace yourself and be ready to get wet as you race down a series of action-packed rapids with names like The Maze, Eye of the Needle, Big Rock and the infamous Souse Hole.
Feel the rush of adrenaline as you zoom over the whitewater, and your guide cuts a way through the rushing river to the other side. Stop for lunch near a scenic swimming hole and soak up the majesty of nature around you before finishing your adventure and heading home.
